Abortion
Those of you who have read me for a while already know that I have a habit touching peoples nerves in different ways (not all of them bad) and generally making a mess of things. But recently, after several interesting conversations with people, and this topic coming up more than a few times in the most recent election, I have decided that I want to say something about it. First off, let me say that THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A BIG LONG ANTI-ABORTION RANT. Those aren’t nescessary and don’t really seem to convince anybody one way or the other about the touchy subject, but there is one thing that I would like to take the time to make perfectly clear.
ABORTION HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH WOMEN’S RIGHTS!!!
To even go as far as to think that it does is ultimate selfishness. The question of abortion stems 100% on whether or not you think that an unborn baby is a living human or not. And if you do, then it also extends to whether or not you feel that the baby’s life is worth taking (you sick fuck). It is fair and in good taste to engage in educated and civil discussions about abortions legality based on these facts, but to say that it is an issue of womens rights goes beyond ignorance, to the extent of thinking that women have more say in the matter of a child’s life than God.
What reason would I have to say this? To put it simply, if somebody where to consider abortion as a matter of women’s rights, that is no different than saying, “okay, I acknowledge that abortion actually kills babies, but it should be up to the mother to decide if the baby should live.” This manner of thinking is conceptually devoid of logic and based solely on whether or not the mother wants this burden.
Here, let me lift that “burden” off of your shoulders.
Until next time, good luck with life.

Excellent post, though before bed, the image is most upsetting (though the point is clear).
I used to be all for the “choice” side of things until I met a fellow (who’s now a friend of mine) who is the product of rape. Had his 16 year old mother aborted, this world would never have known the amazing person I’ve come to know.
As usual, you’ve picked a thought provoking topic, and have written it well.
All the best,
Taylor
I don’t get it. Why do so many get so worked up over unborn fetuese when the worls is filled of people being tortured, murdered, excecuted, abused etc etc. Some of those aborted fetuses would turn out stilborn or die in infancy.
@relaxolgy - maybe we should just eat them
@relaxolgy - I think of it this way – why should the pro-life people who hate the people who get abortions want those types of people to have and raise children anyway? *ponder* And what should the punishment be for having abortions if it becomes illegal? I just think it is not for the government to decide for people when everyone has differing views on it, and many of the arguments against abortion are religious arguments. I also find it hard to see why people parade abortion as a women’s rights issue..
aww, sad. who knows what or who this person was to become?
It’s not entirely selfish to think of abortion in those terms. I guess you’d have to understand what the world was like before Roe v. Wade. Unplanned pregnancy brought extremely nasty social ramifications, probably more so than we could ever imagine, and abortions still happened even though it was illegal, but it was done by butchers in back alleys. Making something illegal doesn’t make it go away, it just drives the act underground and makes it a more risky venture. So the choices are either abortions are done legally, in the public eye with the pro-life masses screaming, or it’s done in back alleys again, putting not just an end to a baby’s life, but putting the mother’s health in peril because she saw no other alternative.
@angelwingfive - that doesn’t change the fact that looking at abortion as a women’s rights issue is entirely selfish (it should be considered a human rights issue)
would anyone like to watch a french film entitled “A L’Interieur?”
You sexist pig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…Actually, I agree.
I can’t see how any of my rights are connected to abortion.
It has nothing to do with religion… even if I outright didn’t believe in God Himself, I couldn’t support abortion. Not even in the embryonic stage.
BTW, that was some picture you found there… I’ve seen a few other pictures of aborted fetuses, even worse than that one.
good lord, i’m seriously disturbed now….
@maebemaebenot - as am I! ><
That’s a disturbing image, granted. Only because it looks like an alien and it would freak me the hell out to have that inside me anyway, but that’s just me.
That whole “shock and awe” tactic just makes anti-abortionists look more whacko, imho. Try another line of argument. Maybe a more respectable one, lest the pro-lifers post images of women being raped. How would that grab ya?
Any fetus that size won’t look nearly as human as it does in that picture.
At such a size and ‘age,’ it is almost indistinguishable from a puppy fetus, or even a turtle or a chicken.
AKA That picture is a fake, yo.
@RockOfEadie - it IS a human rights issue; unborn humans don’t have rights. (Apparently neither do international prisoners … but that’s not something the Christian Right goes around holding signs and making shock posts about. … although maybe it should be!)
@nimbusthedragon - oh-oh, I could be the one in the picture.
You post I completely agre with. My best friend recently was doing research on Abortion and was so shocked and utterly disgusted about the minds of those that think abortion is fair.
Picture is completely true, after about one month of conception the baby will have a brain, and a spinal cord. -Meaning it is a living organism.
Good Post!
@RaVnR - picture is legit actually
@nimbusthedragon - do you know how minimal the percentage of women that get abortions are rape victims?

Yes, its a human rights issue but you cant claim that its entirely in gods hands as opposed to that of the woman having the child. What about athiests? They obviously dont believe its up to god. And abortion is fair enough to endorse if there is a legitimate reason not to have the baby and its not well into the second trimester. Population also has to be considered. Check out the developing nations. Many of their populations dont have good access to birth control and end up having back alley abortions because they cant afford to keep the child. Well developed countries are lucky enough to have a place to put the child if the mother cant raise it, but it doesnt mean the people are intelligent enough to practice safe sex or that they’re emotionally or mentally ready to have the child. Again, you’re saying human rights, but the women are human too and for some of them, they shouldnt have to bear that burden, based on circumstances of course.
Its sad, Im anti abortion unless it is medical harm to the mother (fallopian (sp?) pregnancy). But even then its a rough choice. That picture was shocking…how young was the fetus?
Interesting thoughts, I’ve I always thought there is no need for abortion unless both the mother and child are in danger and even then it’s not a decision I’d put on anyone.
Agreed.
